Friday 11th October at Taunton Racecourse

We are pleased to confirm the details of the Somerset Music Conference being held on Friday 11th October at Taunton Racecourse.

The Conference caters for all key stages/school phases and gives the opportunity to network with colleagues across the county.

We are very excited that our keynote speaker for the conference is Jason Singh.

The breath is an incredibly powerful force that contains the potential to change and transform our lives both as teachers and students.

This keynote speech and performance will introduce delegates to Jason’s cross art form breath work in live performance, television, film, theatre, radio and music education.

Delegates will explore the voice and vocal creativity through beatboxing, Indian vocal percussion, extended vocal techniques and vocally recreating natural environments both acoustically and in collaboration with music technologies.

Delegates will take away an introductory tool kit with applications for beatboxing in the classroom, Indian counting techniques for group work, breathing techniques for well-being and meditation, as well as applications across maths, English, geography and drama/performance. The keynote will also include time for questions and answers with Jason.

A sound artist, nature beatboxer, producer, DJ, performer and facilitator, Jason Singh’s areas of work all stem from a multi-sensory approach to sound and music. And at the very heart of it, listening.

Jason’s ongoing exploration of nature, voice and technology, and collaborations with musicians, wildlife experts, visual artists and dancers feed into a wide range of multi-faceted projects in the UK and internationally. With a catalogue that includes live performance, gallery installations, sound walks, podcasts, DJ sets, and music for film and theatre, his work has been commissioned by a whole raft of organisations from Chester Zoo to the BBC.

A gifted facilitator with a natural connection to young people, outreach and community engagement has been a constant in Jason’s career. Workshops on beatboxing, sound design / producing, and field recording have engaged students of all ages and abilities. Many years working for Youth Music, Music for Youth, Sing Up, Arts Council England, NHS, YMCA, Creative Partnerships to name a few have honed his practice which he also passes on through CPD for teachers and education professionals.

In addition to the keynote speaker there are a variety of workshops for you to choose from to support your teaching and to give you new ideas to put into practice in your classroom.

The cost for the conference is £95.
