Take part Somerset County Youth Concert Band
Formed in 1973, the Somerset County Youth Concert Band is made up of approximately 60 of some of the most talented young musicians from across the county. With its large range of woodwind and brass instruments and exciting percussion section, this award winning band presents a diverse and challenging repertoire of original concert band music, hits from the West End shows, classical repertoire and swing.
Take part Somerset County Youth Orchestra
Since its foundation over thirty years ago the SCYO has been offering high quality orchestral playing to young musicians from all over Somerset. A large number of the students who have played in this group have been inspired by their musical experiences to pursue the subject to a very high level. Countless numbers of our members have studied, or are studying music at university or music college. Many have become professional musicians working as performers or teachers. Some even work for the County Music Service, Somerset Music who support the orchestra!
The orchestra is a full sized symphony orchestra and recent performances have included Mahler Symphony No 5, Bartok Concerto For Orchestra and Shostakovich Symphony No 5, 8 & 10.

The Somerset County Youth Choir was reformed in September 2014 and is open to young people aged 8 to 21. The choir meet throughout each term and perform regularly throughout the year at small and large scale events across the county. There is no audition to join the choir, just an enthusiasm to learn and a love of singing! Being a member of the choir gives you the opportunity to widen your singing experiences and challenge your musical creativity. You will have the chance to sing a broad range of repertoire and work with vocal experts.
We also have a Show Choir (entry by audition) which was formed in August 2015 and runs independently from the County Youth Choir providing an opportunity for performers who wish to combine choral, close harmony singing with dance.
