Monday July 7th 1.30 to 5. Castle School.
Sunday July 13th. 10.15 to 11.45. Museum of Somerset.
Two workshops exploring the world of street music with tutors from the amazing Kinetika Bloco. This London based youth project is an exuberant mix of young brass and woodwind players, drummers, steel pan and dancers. They create a “unique new British Carnival sound with a decidedly London edge” (BBC Radio 2). The Bloco is where many of our leading young jazz players, like The Ezra Collective, started playing. The workshop will have a focus on wind, brass and drums. Grade 3 standard and above. There will be the chance to join the Bloco when they perform at the Sound of the Streets day on July 13th. Sound of the Streets Band
Our core band plays at many public events in Somerset. We would love local music teachers and confident young musicians to join us
Sound of the Streets schools residency. We are offering our small education band to run workshops and presentations in school. We have played over 2000 pupils for Devon Music Hub, and can also offer resources for teachers.
Accessible and life- affirming, Street bands are excellent for developing musical skills and confidence, ensemble playing, rhythmic sense and improvisation. We are looking to run a Honk Fest and Street Band Gathering in 2026.
The Sound of the Streets is a music charity that promotes street bands, brings public spaces to life and inspires children and young people with this vibrant, life affirming music. With funding from Arts Council England, Taunton Town Council and Make Music Repeat.www.thesoundofthestreets.com
