Street Band Workshop
Saturday 8th February, 2pm-4pm
Guildhall Young Artists Taunton,
Richard Huish College, Taunton
Explore the exciting and inspiring world of street band music with The Sound of The Streets in this free workshop for young players of brass, wind and drums.
One of the musical wonders of the world, Street bands make strong and rhythmic music, full of life and energy. They are the sound of celebration from New Orleans to South Africa, Delhi to the Balkans.
This music is great for developing musical skills, ensemble playing, rhythmic sense, improvisation, and confidence, learning to play by ear and exploring your instrument. The workshop will use a mixture of playing by ear and from music and can adapt to whatever people are most comfortable with. The workshop is led by 3 leading music educators and street band musicians.
The workshop is for young musicians under 19 years of age, of Grade 3 equivalent or above, i.e. comfortable with their instrument. The Sound of the Streets runs The Sound Invaders, a youth street band, at Castle School, meeting on Wednesdays at 6pm that is always open to new players.
Free admission but advance booking is essential. To book a place please email:
