About us
Inspiring young people from all of Somerset to make music together
Our vision and why music matters
The National Plan for Music 2011 set out a new programme for the delivery of music education
“Children from all backgrounds and every part of England should have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument; to make music with others; to learn to sing; and to have the opportunity to progress to the next level of excellence if they wish to”
Our vision is to support and implement that plan to ensure that every child in Somerset has access to high quality instrumental tuition through our Whole Class Ensemble Tuition (WCET) and the opportunity to progress to individual or small group lessons; in addition our Singing Strategy offers a wide range of opportunities for singing both in school and through our County Youth Choirs. We also provide opportunities for young people to take part in extra curricular activities and CPD for secondary and primary music educators.
Our servicesWe believe that music education is an essential part of the school curriculum and that the skills children develop through learning a musical instrument such as creative thinking, team working and problem solving together with increased confidence and self-esteem, are beneficial in all areas of their learning.
As part of Support Services for Education our ambition is to improve the lives of young people through music by working together with schools and our music education partners. We work hard to keep the cost of tuition for schools and parents/young people low as we are passionate about making music accessible to as many young people as possible.
As we look to the future after a long period of disruption to learning, we hope to support you and your pupils in all areas of music education.
So please explore our website to find out more about us and the services we provide – we look forward to working with you very soon!
