Join this award‑winning ensemble for an exciting evening celebrating the very best of concert band music.
This year’s programme showcases the breadth and skill of the Somerset Youth Concert Band through a diverse collection of exciting works. Chance’s Incantation & Dance opens with a mysterious, atmospheric incantation before launching into driving rhythms and bold energy. Binge’s Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Band: Allegro Spiritoso, featuring soloist Matilda Sowter, adds flair and virtuosity, highlighting the expressive and playful qualities of the alto saxophone. The band also performs Chattaway’s Mazama, an evocative, cinematic work inspired by the dramatic scenery surrounding Mount Mazama. Adding to the excitement is Music from *The Incredibles*, Michael Giacchino’s vibrant and jazz‑infused film score arranged by Jay Bocook, bringing swagger, sparkle, and superhero‑style energy to the programme.
Formed in 1973, the Somerset Youth Concert Band brings together around 60 of the county’s most talented young musicians. With its rich blend of woodwind and brass instruments supported by a dynamic percussion section, the band offers a full and engaging orchestral sound. In addition to full‑ensemble works, audiences will also enjoy performances from smaller chamber groups, highlighting the unique character and skill of each section.
Tickets are on sale through the Cedars Hall Box Office. Tickets will also be available on the door but wherever possible it would be much appreciated if tickets are booked and paid for in advance.
